As a student, science evokes memories of bunsen burners, lab stools and long experiment write-ups! As a teacher, science has always been an amazing opportunity to be creative and seek wonder in the eyes of our children. This is why each year, the British Science Association runs a ten-day celebration of science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) called British Science Week. This involves a series of events all over the UK to help raise the profile of science, as well as give children the opportunity to learn about famous scientists.
People have preconceived notions of what a scientist looks like. This campaign encourages people in the STEM industry to share their everyday work as a scientist, using #EverydayScientist on social media and therefore dispelling such stereotypes. Instead, the focus is on inspiring children to think about how exciting a (STEM) science, technology, engineering and maths job could be!
